Many of my clients tried everything before they came to see me:
- Trying to fall asleep only insures that you remain awake. Because the more you try to put yourself asleep, the less chances you have to actually fall asleep
- Alcohol can put you to sleep: This may be true, but as soon as it wears off, you abruptly awaken and it will be harder than ever to fall asleep
- Sleeping pills help to fall asleep but they suppress the dream phase of sleep (REM sleep). This is why you feel more tired when you wake up than before going to sleep. With time you need more and more medication due to developed tolerance
- Going to bed 30 min. earlier and keeping a journal next to your bed will help as well
